Every time "ra-dropping" comes up, the lament that Japanese is being corrupted is repeated. Yet go back even a little way into the history of the language and you find that many of the forms held correct today were once new forms condemned in just the same way. What we feel as corruption, then, may be nothing more than the fact that a change happens to have become visible to us — not the speed of the change.
