A: This shopping street used to be much livelier, you know.

B: Really? A lot of the shops have their shutters down now.

A

A: Yes. Since the big supermarket opened, customers have gradually fallen away.

B

B: But there's always a queue at that bakery, isn't there.

A

A: A young man took that one over. He's the previous owner's son — he trained in Tokyo and then came back, apparently.

B

B: I see. It must be an age where you can't survive without doing something new.

A

A: That's true. But I think looking after the long-standing customers matters just as much. He kept the prices the same and changed only the taste.

B

B: That's a clever way to do it.
