簡潔（かんけつ）に言（い）うと、ホブボームの論点（ろんてん）は２０世紀（せいき）の歴史（れきし）は文化（ぶんか）衰退（すいたい）の歴史（れきし）であるということだ。

Briefly stated, Hobsbawm's thesis is that the history of the twentieth century is that of the decline of civilization.

その衰退（すいたい）はざっと１９５０年代（ごじゅうねんだい）までさかのぼる事（こと）が出来（でき）る。

The decline can be traced to the 1950s.

このまま行（い）くと、５年後（ねんご）日本（にほん）が衰退（すいたい）しているのは、火（ひ）を見（み）るより明（あき）らかである。

If we continue like this, it's as clear as day that the Japan of five years on will be in decline.
