歴史家

私（わたし）たちは誰（だれ）でも歴史（れきし）にはある程度（ていど）の興味（きょうみ）を持（も）っている。ある意味（いみ）では、みんな歴史家（れきしか）なのである。

All of us have some interest in history. In a sense, we are all historians.

歴史家（れきしか）の役割（やくわり）は資料（しりょう）の発見（はっけん）や分類（ぶんるい）よりも、むしろその解釈（かいしゃく）と説明（せつめい）にある。

The role of the historian is less to discover and catalog documents than to interpret and explain them.
