スフィンクスはテーベ市（いち）へ行（い）く途中（とちゅう）の何百（なんびゃく）人（ひと）もの人（ひと）を食（た）べてしまっていた。というのはその人（ひと）達（たち）が、こうかつなスフィンクスが出（だ）すなぞなぞに答（こた）えられなかったからであった。
