自民党（じみんとう）は増税（ぞうぜい）の法案（ほうあん）を提出（ていしゅつ）したが、猛烈（もうれつ）な反対（はんたい）にあって撤回（てっかい）した。

The LDP brought out a bill to raise taxes, but they met with such violent opposition that they backed down.
