Decide to 〜ことにする

Meaning

A decision you make yourself — "decide to ~". 〜ことにしました reports the decision as settled.

Formation

Notes

Contrast with ことになる, which is a decision made FOR you by circumstances or someone else. 〜ことにしている (with ている) means a rule you keep: 毎日走ることにしています ("I make a point of running daily").
