Location of action / means で

Meaning

Two main uses: (1) the place where an action takes place, (2) the means, tool, or language used to perform an action. Also (3) "because of" a cause (e.g. 風邪で).

Notes

Contrast with に: に marks WHERE SOMETHING EXISTS, で marks WHERE AN ACTION HAPPENS. (本屋がある vs 本屋で買う.)
