Probably / right? 〜でしょう / だろう

Meaning

Two uses: (1) conjecture — "probably ~ / I think ~"; (2) seeking confirmation — " ..., right?". Polite form of だろう.

Formation

[noun / adjective / verb (plain)] + でしょう

Notes

For conjecture, often paired with たぶん (probably) or 多分. In speech, rising intonation on でしょう makes it a confirmation question (天気いいでしょう？ "Nice weather, huh?").

Examples

明日（あした）はたぶん雨（あめ）が降（ふ）るでしょう。

Tomorrow it will probably rain. (conjecture)
