Senses 〜がする

Meaning

Reports a sensation that reaches you — a smell, a sound, a taste, a feeling.

Formation

[音 / 声 / におい / 味 / 感じ / 気] + が + する

Notes

The sensation takes が, never を: 変な音がします ("there is a strange noise"). It is not something you do — it is something you perceive. 気がする is the very common "I have a feeling that ~": 忘れたような気がする.

Examples

台所（だいどころ）からいいにおいがします。
