So that / in order to 〜ように

Meaning

States the goal a action serves — "so that ~", "in order to ~". The clause before ように is the desired outcome, not a deliberate act.

Formation

[verb, plain non-past or ない-form] + ように、[action]

Notes

ように takes a verb you do NOT directly control — potential, negative or an intransitive: 聞こえるように ("so it can be heard"), 忘れないように ("so as not to forget"). For a goal you act on deliberately, use 〜ために instead: 大学に入るために勉強する. Do not confuse this with ようだ (seems) or ように (like ~).

忘（わす）れないようにメモしておきます。

I'll make a note so I don't forget.
