There are times when 〜ことがある

Meaning

Says something happens occasionally — "there are times when ~", "sometimes ~".

Formation

Notes

The non-past form is what separates this from 〜たことがある (past experience): 遅れることがある = "sometimes I am late"; 遅れたことがある = "I have been late before". Often paired with 時々 or たまに.
