地域の行事

今年（ことし）の夏祭（なつまつ）り、どうしますか。去年（きょねん）より参加者（さんかしゃ）が減（へ）っていましたよね。

A: What shall we do about this year's summer festival? Attendance was down on last year.

準備（じゅんび）をする人（ひと）が高齢化（こうれいか）しているのが一番（いちばん）の問題（もんだい）です。テントを立（た）てるだけでも、若（わか）い手（て）が要（い）ります。

B: The biggest problem is that the people who prepare it are getting older. Just putting up the tents needs young hands.

学生（がくせい）に声（こえ）をかけてみてはどうでしょう。近（ちか）くに大学（だいがく）もありますし。

A: How about asking the students? There's a university nearby.

以前（いぜん）も試（ため）したんですが、当日（とうじつ）だけ来（き）てもらっても、準備（じゅんび）の流（なが）れが分（わ）からないので、かえって手間（てま）が増（ふ）えてしまって。

B: We tried before, but having them come only on the day meant they didn't know how the preparation ran, and it actually made more work.

なるほど。だとすると、事前（じぜん）の打ち合（うちあ）わせから入（はい）ってもらう必要（ひつよう）がありますね。

A: I see. In that case they'd need to come in from the planning meetings.

ええ。ただ、そこまで時間（じかん）を取（と）ってくれるかどうか。単位（たんい）が出（で）るわけでもありませんし。

B: Yes. Though whether they'd give up that much time is another matter. It isn't as if they get credit for it.

大学（だいがく）と組（く）んで、地域（ちいき）活動（かつどう）として認（みと）めてもらう方法（ほうほう）もあるのでは。

A: Perhaps we could work with the university and have it recognised as a community activity.

それは考（かんが）えたことがありませんでした。一度（いちど）、先方（せんぽう）に相談（そうだん）してみましょう。

B: That hadn't occurred to me. Let's have a word with them.
