うちの部署(ぶしょ)、残業(ざんぎょう)がずいぶん減(へ)りましたね。
A: Overtime in our department has fallen a good deal, hasn't it.
去年(きょねん)から時間(じかん)を記録(きろく)するようになったのが大(おお)きいと思(おも)います。
B: I think recording our hours from last year made the big difference.
ただ、仕事(しごと)の量(はか)そのものは変(か)わっていませんよね。
A: But the amount of work itself hasn't changed, has it.
ええ。だから、家(いえ)に持ち帰(もちかえ)っている人(ひと)もいるようです。数字(すうじ)の上(うえ)では減(へ)っていても、実態(じったい)は分(わ)からない。
B: No. So some people seem to be taking it home. The figures may be down, but what is really happening we don't know.
それでは意味(いみ)がないですね。
A: Then it's meaningless.
本当(ほんとう)に必要(ひつよう)なのは、やめる仕事(しごと)を決(き)めることだと思(おも)うんです。会議(かいぎ)を減(へ)らすとか、資料(しりょう)を簡単(かんたん)にするとか。
B: What is really needed, I think, is deciding what to stop doing. Cutting meetings, simplifying documents, that sort of thing.
でも、誰(だれ)かが決(き)めないと、なかなか変(か)わらないでしょう。
A: But unless someone decides, nothing much will change, will it.
そこが難(むずか)しいところで。現場(げんば)から声(こえ)を上(あ)げても、上(うえ)が動(うご)かないことには何(なに)も進(すす)まないんですよね。
B: That's the difficult part. Even if people on the ground speak up, nothing moves unless those above act.
