転勤の相談

来年（らいねん）の春（はる）、大阪（おおさか）に転勤（てんきん）するかもしれない。

Husband: I may be transferred to Osaka next spring.

えっ、急（きゅう）ね。断（ことわ）ることはできないの。

Wife: What, that's sudden. Can't you refuse?

断（ことわ）れないわけじゃないけど、断（ことわ）れば昇進（しょうしん）は難（むずか）しくなると思（おも）う。

Husband: It isn't that I can't refuse, but if I did, promotion would become difficult.

でも、子（こ）どもは来年（らいねん）から中学（ちゅうがく）でしょう。転校（てんこう）させるのはかわいそうな気（き）もするけど。

Wife: But the children start secondary school next year. It seems a shame to make them change schools.

うん。だから、単身赴任（たんしんふにん）という選択肢（せんたくし）もあるかなと。

Husband: Yes. So one option is for me to go on my own.

それはそれで大変（たいへん）よ。生活費（せいかつひ）が二重（にじゅう）にかかるし、あなたも一人（ひとり）だと食事（しょくじ）がいい加減（かげん）になるでしょう。

Wife: That has its own problems. We'd pay living costs twice over, and on your own you'd eat badly.

確（たし）かに。三年（さんねん）で戻（もど）れるという話（はなし）ではあるんだけど、その保証（ほしょう）もない。

Husband: True. They say I'd be back in three years, but there's no guarantee of that either.

まずは、期間（きかん）がはっきりするまで待（ま）ってみたら。会社（かいしゃ）の言（い）うことも、決（き）まってからでないと分（わ）からないもの。

Wife: For now, why not wait until the length is clear? You can't know what the company will do until it's settled.
