As it is 〜まま

Meaning

A state left unchanged — "as it is", "still ~", "without changing".

Formation

[verb た-form / ない-form] + まま · [noun] の + まま · [い-adj] + まま · [na-adj] な + まま

Notes

With a verb it is almost always the た-form, because the state was created and then left: 電気をつけたまま寝た ("slept with the light left on"). Do not use the plain non-past — ×つけるまま is wrong.

Examples

電気（でんき）をつけたまま寝（ね）てしまいました。

I fell asleep with the light still on.
