しかし / けれども
However しかし / けれども
Meaning
Formal "but / however" at the start of a sentence. しかし is a written-style conjunction. けれども is the formal/written form of けど/が.
Formation
[sentence]。しかし / けれども、[sentence]
Notes
しかし is purely a conjunction (starts a new sentence). けれども can also attach mid-sentence like が/けど: [clause] けれども [clause]. Both are more formal than でも/けど.
