就職か進学か

先生（せんせい）、卒業後（そつぎょうご）のことで相談（そうだん）したいんですが。

Student: Sensei, I'd like to talk about what to do after graduating.

進学（しんがく）か就職（しゅうしょく）かで迷（まよ）っているんだったね。

Teacher: You were torn between graduate school and getting a job, weren't you.

はい。研究（けんきゅう）は面白（おもしろ）いんですが、二（に）年間（ねんかん）、親（おや）に負担（ふたん）をかけることになるので。

Student: Yes. The research is interesting, but it would mean two more years of being a burden on my parents.

奨学金（しょうがくきん）という方法（ほうほう）もあるよ。返（かえ）さなくていいものもあるし、成績（せいせき）次第（しだい）では受（う）けられる。

Teacher: There are scholarships, you know. Some don't have to be repaid, and depending on your marks you could get one.

知（し）りませんでした。でも、二（に）年後（ねんご）に必（かなら）ず就職（しゅうしょく）できるとは限（かぎ）りませんよね。

Student: I didn't know that. But there's no guarantee of a job in two years' time, is there.

確（たし）かに保証（ほしょう）はない。ただ、今（いま）の分野（ぶんや）は人（ひと）が足（た）りないから、修士（しゅうし）を出（で）ていると選（えら）べる仕事（しごと）の幅（はば）は広（ひろ）がるだろうね。

Teacher: There's certainly no guarantee. That said, this field is short of people, so with a master's the range of jobs you can choose from would widen.

迷（まよ）いますね。

Student: It's a hard choice.

急（いそ）がなくていい。願書（がんしょ）の締め切（しめき）りは十一月（じゅういちがつ）だから、それまでに決（き）めれば間に合（まにあ）うよ。

Teacher: There's no rush. The application deadline is November, so deciding by then is in time.
