Notes

Plainer and more spoken than ざるを得ない, and it says every other option is gone. The everyday short form of the same idea is 〜しかない.

Examples

電車（でんしゃ）が止（と）まったので、歩（ある）くよりほかありません。

The trains have stopped, so there is nothing for it but to walk.
