Something like (belittling) 〜なんて

Meaning

Dismisses or belittles — "something like ~", "the very idea of ~". Can also express surprise.

Formation

Notes

Carries an attitude: contempt (勉強なんて嫌いだ), modesty (私なんて…), or astonishment (彼が来るなんて). It is the colloquial cousin of など. Neutral listing takes とか or や instead.
