Meaning
"While ~", "on the one hand ~, on the other …" — two sides of one situation.
Formation
[verb / i-adj plain] + 一方（で） · [noun] である + 一方（で） · [na-adj] な + 一方（で）
Notes
It places two coexisting facts side by side; they need not contradict, only balance. Keep it apart from 〜一方だ, which says a trend keeps moving in one direction.
Examples
彼（かれ）は医者（いしゃ）である一方（いっぽう）で、作家（さっか）としても知（し）られています。
He is a doctor, and at the same time known as a writer.
