Meaning

"Terribly ~", "I cannot help ~" — the everyday version.

Formation

[verb て form] + しかたがない · [i-adj くて] + しょうがない · [na-adj で] + しょうがない

Notes

しょうがない is the colloquial contraction of しかたがない. It swaps with てたまらない in most sentences but is much the commoner form in speech.

朝（あさ）から眠（ねむ）くてしかたがありません。

I have been terribly sleepy since this morning.
