[noun] という [noun]
Called / named 〜という
Meaning
Introduces a name or label the listener may not know — "a ~ called ~".
Formation
[name] + という + [category noun] · [clause, plain] + ということ
Notes
Use it when the name alone would not be understood: 田中という人 ("a person called Tanaka"). If the listener already knows the person, say 田中さん. 〜ということ turns a whole clause into a noun: 彼が来ないということを聞きました.
